Quality right thurr...

G35 Sunroof Flew right off!

From oil leaking onto the spark plugs, window motor crapping out, door seals falling apart, oil consumption, 80+ TSB and over 9 major recalls, squeaks, horrible tread wear, rattles from all over, door lock mechanicm failing to the sunroof flying off the car. LOL!

The cause? The glue used to hold the glass basically said, fuck it... And the glass basically flew off onto oncoming traffic. Wonder if there will be a TSB or Recall for this problem?

More quality from Infiniti.

"So I was driving yesterday and all of a sudden I heard a suction noise and then my sunroof cover thing started shaking. I opened it up and the glass to my sunroof was gone.

Luckily there was no one behind me.
Any ideas why this would happen? I went to the dealer and they said they never saw anything like that happen and it's not gonna be covered cuz I'm out of warranty."

Report your tire wear issue!

Nissan has issued a TSB for the 350z regarding the horrible tire wear.   Infiniti is still dragging their feet and is denying any problems exists.  They said the same thing when asked about the rev-up oil consumption. It took them over 2 years to finally issue a TSB for the oil consumption.

Nissan 350z and GT-R Tire Problems

UPDATE: A Class Action Suit Has Recently Been Filed Against Nissan For "Tire Feathering" and "Tire Roar" in the 2003 and 2004 Nissan 350z!

ATTENTION GT-R and INFINITI G-35 DRIVERS: We are receiving an increasing number of claims for premature tire wear issues. If this problem occurs with your vehicle, we may be able to help. E-mail us:

What is Tire Feathering?
Tire feathering occurs when the tread ribs actually scrape down the road. It's a common occurrence when the tire has a camber problem or needs toe-in or toe-out alignment. With the Nissan 350z, reports of extremely loud tire noise (sometimes identified as tire roar or howling) almost always accompany the tire feathering problem. Once the tire wear begins, so does the noise. The more miles accumulated, the louder the noise gets.

Nissan to recall Infiniti G35 over air bag issues

View the letter Nissan sent to gov here.

WASHINGTON -- Nissan Motor Co. said Tuesday it will recall nearly 135,000 Infiniti G35 sedans and coupes to address a problem that could lead to the air bag not deploying in a crash.

Nissan said the recall involves G35 Coupes from the 2005 to 2007 model years and G35 Sedans from the 2005 to 2006 model year.

The automaker says the air bag unit's wire harness under the front passenger seat could wear down and interrupt the air bag's signal. In a crash, the air bag may not deploy and could increase the risk of an injury.

Nissan spokesman Colin Price said there have been no injuries reported.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Nissan had not yet provided the agency with a plan to fix the vehicles. Price said Nissan would provide NHTSA with information on the repair in May and begin notifying owners of the recall in June.

Price said if a vehicle's red air bag warning light had turned on, the owner can bring their car into their dealer for repair. For more information, owners can call Infiniti at (800) 662-6200.

Infiniti G35 needs motor replaced @ 70k miles

The owner of this G35 was complaining about his G35 making "clanking" noises upon cold starts. Several members insisted that this was "normal" operating noise and that we should expect a powerful and super duper fast sports car to make some type of noise. The louder the noise, the faster the car is right?

After insisting that the spark plug gasket be replaced, Infinti Techs accidentally discovered that the motor was SHIT. When they removed the valve cover to replace the bad gaskets (will cost you about $700+ if you're out of warranty), the tech noticed that traces of metal shavings were found all over the motor.

So what many described as "normal operating noise", was actually a main bearing failure and the long block had to be replaced.

Nice quality from Infinti. So far, we know that a lot of the rev-up burns oil, most of the G's have window motor going bad, and now these Automatic Coupe also had to get his long block replaced due to an engine bearing failure.

So if your car is making some weird noise. Get it checked before your warranty is up. Don't listen to those idiots trying to play it off as "normal" start-up noise". "You drive a G35 son, it's not suppose to be quiet, so what if it's engine is clanking and your window motor don't work". It's normal.

G35 oil leaks

Nice quality control from Infiniti. That right, at about 70k, a lot of G35 owners are discovering that their #6 spark plug gasket is leaking oil onto the spark plugs. This isn't really a huge issue, UNLESS you are out of warranty. Why? It's just a stupid spark plug gasket. Who the fuck cares.

Well, if you're on a budget, you should care. Because Infiniti doesn't sell just the 6 gaskets you need to replace, you have to BUY AN ENTIRE VALVE COVER KIT!

That will cost you over $700 including labor. Some members were quoted over 1k. So, if your G has close to 70k and you're still in the warranty period, you better check your seals before it's too late.

Interesting how the SAME valve cover on a Nissan Maxima is only $35, while the G35 Cover is $180. Yet BOTH vehicles share the same crappy VQ35DE motor!

Check this before your powertrain warranty is up!

EDIT: not 60k, but before powertrain warranty is up. This is covered under the powertrain warranty (70k on first gen Gs). Issue applies to both coupes & sedans.

I've ran into a few VQ35DE motors so far that have had oil pooling between the spark plug tube seal and valve cover when removing coil pack over cylinder #6.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1G1LpksqPM

In the video it is an extreme example of what will eventually happen if there is a leak that goes unchecked. I was just about to swap my plugs out at 60k and also spotted oil pooling at cylinder #6. It's at the dealer right now and they already replaced both valve covers under warranty. I highly recommend pulling out coil pack #6 and confirming you don't have a leak there while you're still under warranty. The spark plug tube seals aren't sold separately, they only come with new valve covers. See the invoice attached:

Some Warrany work done on my G35

Here is some warranty work done to my car. Took my car in for some "clanking/popping" noises and it turns out that the rear axle bolt was loose. Also complained about the clutch chatter and that was said to be normal operating noise.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Things I hate about my G35

1) Poor shotty (mickey mouse) workmanship
- Bondo dripping all over the place
- Ceiling carpet isn't sealed or properly molded (near rear view mirror)
- Creaking noise all over the place

2) Clanky ass Transmission
- Hard to shift when cold
- Shifter Vibration

3) Cheap ass paint wtf
- Swirls, nicks and rock chips easily occurs with this car (compared to other brands)
- Installation of some ticky tacky "clear bra" is a must

4) Refueling seems to be an issue with this car

5) Window/Door seals needs to be replaced every 30k.
- Wind noise and instability after 80mph

6) Oil Consumption (this isn't normal no matter what every other G35 owners tells you

7) Poor thread wear (see TSB issued by Nissan)
- Infiniti TSB not yet released

8) Window motor failure
- Luckily, since I rarely dirve my G, (3000 miles) My window still works

9) Rear axle clicks
- Since 2003, the 07 models having the same issues is just unacceptable

10) It's heavy
- All the bondo holding the frame together (see post below)

11) No torque

2006 RevUp Oil Consumption, TSB

Nissan has finally accepted the fact that some of the new rev-up motors are burning oil. (Almost 2+ years of fighting with the dealerships). However, Infiniti is still dragging their feet and refused to admit they have a problem.

Good news for oil consuming engines, after 2 years of fighting with the dealer and Nissan North America (NNA). NNA finally released a Technical Service Bulletin that will now take only a visit to the dealer to record an oil fill (top off) plus one more visit maybe two, for a look up on the Oil Consumption Chart to determine if the engine is to be replaced at the dealer level. In the past there was this long agonizing painful process of arguing with the dealer and NNA to accept responsibility of a mechanical defect in the engine, that 1 qt per 1k mi was unacceptable. Today the dealer have a guidelines set forth for all dealers to comply with, not to mention we now have the same chart.

G35 poor tread life - 10-12k??

It has been well documented that the Nissan 350z has had issues with it's suspension causing very poor tread life. Nissan has finally recognized this problem and is in the process of issuing a recall.

The result of a class action lawsuit against Nissan.
http://www.nissantireproblems.com/

------------------------------------------------------------
Have you experienced abnormal tire wear on your Nissan 350z? Do your tires show signs of feathering or cupping? Have you had one or more sets of tires replaced on your 350z? Are you suffering from excessive tire noise? You are not alone. Message boards are filled with 1000's of posts from 350z owners across the country reporting problems with their tires. In some cases, consumers are reportedly going through three sets of tires within 12,000 - 14,000 miles!
------------------------------------------------------------

Sadly, Infiniti refuses to acknowledge that these problems exist with the G35 coupe and maybe even the sedan. (They also fail to recognize that the newer 05-07 models with the rev-up motor also have oil consumption issues. Infiniti failed to upgrade their pistons/rings when they increased the rev limit on the newer models). That was smart. I guess they don't have an R&D/Quality Control department?

Reminds me of a Mickey Mouse mechanic who just slap on a bunch of crap and pray that it works.

The link above indicates that a tread life of just about 12-14k is not acceptable, hence the "class action suite " against Nissan. Hopefully more people will recognize this issue and file a complaint here: http://www.nissantireproblems.com/infiniti-g35-tire-wear.html

There's a couple of hardcore G35 owners who won't admit that the G35 has several mechanical and other problem. And they will say anything to "protect" the name of the G. Sadly, they are delusional.

An M3 has a documented tread life of 40+k. And an M3 is a real sports car. Unlike the G35. Which is all looks and sadly lacks everything else.

------------------------------------------------------------
Here's another review:
G35 epinion review

Watch out for tire wear issues, brakes, automatic close windows falling out of adjustment. CD player was very slow in switching CD's. From reading forums on Infiniti's, I believe there are some very, very good dealerships, and very, very bad dealerships, that will hurt Infiniti in the end. While their automobiles are now much more exciting than years ago they had better work on their dealer network consistency and customer care. I already have 2 individuals who have decided to avoid Infiniti due to my experience.

Cons: tire wear, brake wear, maintenance $$$, very poor service experience

G35 Coupe - Can't recirculate air w/o having the A/C on

Wow. Just when you thought your brand new car couldn't have any more issues, you find another one while driving behind a bus.

So you're behind a bus, which is smoking out bad exhaust fumes. You're in your car and you hit the "recirculate" button and the A/C turns on. You then turn the A/C off and the car automatically switches back to fresh air mode. Again, allowing the horrible exhaust stench to enter you car.

One of the sadder moments, another member in one of the G35 forums knew this was a problem. Instead of being honest and accepting the fact that we cannot recirculate the cabin air w/o having the A/C on, he "photochopped" an image to "prove" that his car wasn't defective. "How low can you go". That's pretty damn low if you ask me.

The G35, has another problem added to the list.

G35 window problem fix

The G35 has a history of window failures and several G's have been sent back to the dealership for warranty work. But before you take your G to get serviced, you can try to reset it. Here's how.

The one-touch auto up/down feature on the driver's door window did not work when I climbed into our G35 today. It went down fine, but I had to hold the switch to raise the glass. It reminded me of a little trick that saved us a trip to the dealer. It works for many of the one-touch windows on the market today. Try it out.

In order to re-program the switch there are a few steps:
(1) Raise the window.
(2) When it's completely closed, hold the switch in the window-up position for 10 seconds.
(3) Lower the window.
(4) When it's completely open, hold the switch in the window-down position for 10 seconds.
(5) Repeat steps #1 and #2.

At this point the problem should be no more. Try it once or twice at a later time if the issue persists. If a second try still doesn't remedy the situation it may require dealer service after all.

Cheap G35 Drivers

Here's one post showing how cheap some G owners are. This guy had one of this door actuator motor fail on him. (Quality of Infiniti). Instead of getting it fixed "right", the owner decided to go the "mickey mouse route".

---------------------------------------------------
Wha'sup peoples. So I, as many, have dead door lock motors on my 03 coupe which is out of warranty. I was pretty disgusted with the dealer cost of ~150 for a door lock motor especially since i know from installing alarms and power door locks (in college) that aftermarket door lock motors cost less than 10 bucks.

I bought this door lock motor:http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=330-010And installed it as shown in the pics below.

- I made the bracket holding the motor (.06" thick 5052 aluminum)- drilled a hole in the door handle housing for the rod to pass through - clipped off part of the plastic door lock lever
- trimmed some of the plastic ribs on the inside of the door panel to make clearance for the motor.
- Cut the wires going to the factory motor and hooked directly to the new motor. You can find the wires inside the door below the speaker (take out the speaker). I brought them out the rubber boot above the speaker.

This was the passenger door. I'm gonna try the drivers door tomorrow.

Again... cost was $5... Sweet.....
-----------------------------------------------

You have to give it up from some of these owners. They can't afford to get it done right, so they go the cheaper route. Again, proving my point that some G owners are cheap.

1) Mickey Mouse door actuator fix
2) Using regular fuel instead of Premium
3) Installing "fiberglass replicas" instead of paying for the real deal
4) Going to Nissan to get their oil change
5) Doing the 15k service themselves (haha)
6) Going to Nissan to see if they can get it done cheaper there
7) etc. etc.

When they purchased he Infiniti, they should have included the cost of future services into their budget and future costs of owning the G.
