Toyota FT-86 would RAPE the G25

A 305hp budget sports coupe? If this is true, it's going to be the next big hit. Forget the stupid little 50K Inferior Performance Line G37 or the 32k G25. Anyone with even half a brain would rather hop on the FT-86.  The only thing that can go wrong with this car is if it's sold under the Scion Badge.

The rumored pricing for his beast is about $25k! So forget the IPL G37.  You can get 2 of these. One as a daily and one as a track car.  Looking at the concept, this thing is one sick ride.  Hopefully, Toyota doesn't mess this up with the production car, like Infinti did with the G37. LOL  I would trade my G35 for this ride. Heck, I even thought about trading it for a 2010 V6 Camry.

This car isn't in production yet, but there is already a forum dedicated to this car.

Toyota FT-86 Could Get 305-HP Subaru WRX STI Engine
Source:  AutoGuide
Previewed in concept form, the upcoming Toyota FT-86 was introduced as a budget sports car inspired by the Corolla AE86 and using a low-powered Subaru boxer engine capable of around 200-hp. Now, reports suggest that with increased development costs Toyota has decided to take the project further up-market, opting instead to run the WRX STI’s 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, producing a significant 305-hp.

Partnership on the car, often referred to as the ‘Toyobaru’ may extend further however, with Toyota and Subaru also looking at ways to team-up on additional future models. In fact, the next-generation Subaru Tirbeca could share a platform with the Toyota Highlander.

Toyota is expected to debut the FT-86 at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of 2011, although some reports have suggested we could get our first glimpse of the production model, badged as the Scion FR-S, at this year’s New York Auto Show in April.

"Toyota FT-86 would RAPE the G25". Hypothetical statement. The FT-86 does not exist as yet. It would "RAPE" IF it existed AND it out-performed the G25. Stupid, inane and crass statement.

Boo hoo. I own a G37 Sedan and butt hurt because I overpaid of this pos. I should have waited for the FT-86.

Read the entire article next time buddy. I know it's hard since you're home-schooled and all. But keep working on it Mikey! I have faith in you.

"because I overpaid of this pos". Is that a google translate because it makes no sense. Also reading the rest of the post does nothing to to negate my previous post. There have been NO official statements from Toyota or Subaru as to the power or mass of this unreleased vehicle. "Could get", "reports suggest" are all just speculation. "The only thing that can go wrong with this car is if it's sold under the Scion Badge." That is quite a statement. What if it is too heavy? How about it is too hardcore for the masses? Too soft as a performance car? There is a major recall within the 1st 3 months of it's release?
Recycling rumors and gossip does nothing for one's credibility

I see what you are saying. You're arguments are very valid. TRUE, that Toyota has not released any info on the car yet and everything out there are just 'speculation'.

BUT, there is a lot of people interested in the car, and Toyota is just throwing things out there to see what people have to say. And so far, people are LOVING IT.

Toyota needs to do this right. DO NOT make this a Scion. Give it 300+ HP, keep the price under 30k and this this would sell like hot cakes.

People are looking for a Sports car from Toyota since the Supras are no longer in production. And we all know how those things kick ass.

Don't make the same mistake Infiniti did with their IPL pos. LOL

True. I am one of the people who are very interested in this car but I am not confident Toyota can keep the weight down. I think low weight is much more important than high power.(Of course low weight + high power would be awesome).By the way why would releasing it under the Scion brand be a mistake? I mean if it is just a different badge what difference would it make to the car. If it is a good car it doesn't matter what the badge says. We don't have Scion here so I don't know what image Scion has there.

Because the Scion isn't known for performance. And if the price is more than 25k for the FT-86, no one is going to pay 25k+ for Scion.

Even so, I hear that Subaru will also be releasing the same car under their brand. So, Toyota decides to release this as a Scion, I would rather buy the Subaru version.

If this is released under the Toyota badge, and the specs are good, I would glady trade my G35 coupe for the FT-86.

LOL Infiniti is a luxury brand. Period. If you want to compare performance numbers for a good price then look at the 370z or GT-R. If you want a good balance of luxury and performance then get an Infiniti. Sorry you are jealous of Infiniti owners but you will grow up some day little guy.

first off, the gt-r is one of the most highly praised cars. other than them pursuing faster lap times at the nurburgring with the new spec v for extra what? 15k?

second, the release of the g25 is just to compete with the market of smaller engine, entry level cars. i.e. is250 vs is350. i think it's stupid that they introduce the smaller, underpowered engine AFTER everyone bought the monstrous 3.7 liters...no enthusiast, at least not me, would buy the g25. but never the less, other than the engine, still a great car. (05 g35 coupe owner)

third, you're right, no to scion name. IF the ft-86 releases, it cannot bear a scion badge unless the scion division takes a turn and markets to a different group of people. much like acura stopped selling integra and rsx to "move up". scion has been marketing themselves to the younger kids, but mainly affordable and efficient without needing much power. ft-86 doesnt fit that profile. it needs to continue the legend of previous best sellers like the supra, badged a toyota. like the rsx takes on as the "new" integra still badged as acura. what if the new viper coming out in years to come isnt labeled a dodge anymore?? but say, a chyrsler?? it would just be wrong. everything here is just imo, which everyone is entitled to voice including the dude who owns this page i guess. but he has some SERIOUS hatred for nissan/infiniti lol.

I can't be "jealous" since I own a G35 moron.

GT-86 is now available with a massive 197 HP and 151 foot pounds of torque propelling it to 60 mph in 7+ seconds. What a huge dissapointment this turd turned out to be. Only a Toyota fanboy could defend it's anemic performance.
